Geography

Purpose

At Moss Park Primary School, we provide a high-quality geography education that covers sufficient breadth and depth to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Through our curriculum design, we revisit and build on prior knowledge  and learning carefully; this allows children to develop their understanding of the world around them, build an identity and develop a sense of place. Working with our local community and supporting local initiatives, our children leave Moss Park Primary School as conscientious citizens.

Aims

  • To develop pupils' contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places including their defining physical and human characteristics and how these provide a geographical context for understanding the actions of processes.

  • To understand the processes that give rise to key physical & human geographical features of the world, how these are interdependent and how they bring about variation and change over time.

  • To ensure pupils are competent in the geographical skills needed to collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork. They will be able to interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
